Legon Palmwine Band
The Legon Palmwine Band consists of five young musicians who continue to perform in the Palmwine guitar music tradition of Ghana. Since its formation when they were students, they have performed and led workshops on the different forms of Palmwine guitar music. Over the last two years of its existence they have mainly performed at the National Theatre, ISSER International Conference, University of Professional Studies graduation Kwankwa-nduase all in Ghana and this festival marks their first international performance. At this festival the band leads a performance of tunes from the Odonson stock of the repertoire of the tradition as championed by one of Ghana’s living exponent of the style Agya Koo Nimo, but with a contemporary interpretation. The instrumental setup includes acoustic guitar, dawuro, Kpanlogo drums, prempresiwa and vocals.
